Italy, the land of pizza, pasta and cheese. The Italian guest team brings you the ultimate experience of throwing Ruzzolone, a big cheese.

How does it work?
A leather belt is wrapped around the cheese and pulled off with a stick of wood. The competitions are held every summer Sunday from April to October on delimited fields, called treppi. Because the cheese does not always roll straight, official spotters mark the place where it rolls off the road. The winner – the player or team that finishes the race track in the fewest strokes – wins this cheese game.

Rolling the cheese is a traditional sport of ancient Etruscan origin, practiced in Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Abruzzo, Marche, Umbria, Lazio and Calabria. The cheese game is played everywhere a bit differently.

European Sports for All Games
Sports from the Italian Federation and 18 traditional sport disciplines are being brought to Friesland this summer. In Italy, there are about 385 associations and in total around 15.500 members who practice traditional sports. Come and join the games – they guarantee Italian tradition, culture and history.

The Italian team cannot wait to visit Friesland from August 3rd until 7th: „Surely it will be an unforgettable festival in beautiful places with a wonderful welcome. A new experience.”
